C, E-flat and G go into a bar

Posted this on my Facebook profile:

C, E-flat and G go into a bar. The bartender says, "Sorry, but we don't
serve minors." So E-flat leaves, and C and G have an open fifth between
them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished and G is out flat. F
comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough.

D comes in and heads for the bathroom saying, "Excuse me. I'll just be
a second." Then A comes in, but the bartender is not convinced that
this relative of C is not a minor. Then the bartender notices B-flat
hiding at the end of the bar and says, "Get out! You're the seventh
minor I've found in this bar tonight."

E-Flat comes back the next night in a three-piece suit with nicely
shined shoes. The bartender says, "you're looking sharp tonight. Come
on in, this could be a major development." Sure enough, E-flat soon
takes off his suit and everything else, and is a natural.

Eventually C sobers up and realizes in horror that he's under a rest. C is brought to trial, found guilty of
contributing to the diminution of a minor, and is sentenced to 10 years
of D.S. without Coda at an upscale correctional facility.

Some highly witty comments flowed in on this one:

Nitin Verma: lol :-D
August 2 at 2:04am

Madhu Ganguly: :-)
August 2 at 2:47am

Tejas Datta: hehehe and what do they all end up singing along?
August 2 at 9:50am

Anuj Gupta: G-ya jale jaan jale...
E-mli ka boota beri ka ber...
C-ne mein jalan aankhon mein toofan...
August 2 at 10:12am

Kshitij Dhyani: WTF, did they make out eventually?
August 2 at 11:58am

Madhavan Narayanan: Just noticed all this is under your "Notes" section!;-)
August 2 at 8:32pm

Madhavan Narayanan: Actually, this piece strikes a nice chord somewhere.
August 3 at 9:57am

Sanjiva Prasad: 1st sentence should have read .. go into a barre.
August 3 at 10:01am

Madhavan Narayanan: @Sanjiva-Don't fret about such stuff;-)
August 3 at 10:02am

Anuj Gupta: Let this board continue the conversation with no strings attached
August 3 at 10:19am

Madhavan Narayanan: Thanks, Anuj--hope somebody is recording the minuets of this meeting.
August 3 at 12:19pm

Anuj Gupta" before we do that, we all need to be Tuned up natural-E
August 3 at 12:45pm

Madhavan Narayanan: Thanks, Anuj. Should we end this exchange before Soumitra asks us to Guit the hell out of here?
August 3 at 1:32pm

Anuj Gupta: why, is he keeping tabs on us?
August 3 at 2:11pm

Madhavan Narayanan: Anuj--It looks like he is. Cos I am now tagged. Will our plans go Capo-t?
August 3 at 4:14pm

Soumitra R: You guys are so good at this that I dont even want to venture a comment in between. It's so much better to just watch them come in :)
August 3 at 4:16pm

Madhavan Narayanan: Soumitra--We shall end on that "note" shall we? Else the whole thing may fall flat and fade away in a fuzzy improvisation
August 4 at 10:22am

Which is bigger, Earth Hour or Earth Minute ?

Delhi reports that : http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/NEWS/City/Delhi/Delhi-to-observe-Earth-Hour-every-month/articleshow/4350616.cms
1 Earth Hour = 60 minutes of power = 10,000 MW saved.

but why just an hour ??
Instead, why not have an earth minute every day of the year ?

so
1 minute x 365 days = 365 minutes = 6 earth hours = 6 x 10,000 MW = 60,000 MW saved.

so
5 minutes x 365 days = 365 minutes = 30 earth hours= 300,000 MW saved

and
10 minutes x 365days = 3650 minutes = 60 earth hours = A whopping 600,000 MW saved !!

.
.
.
It's not that complicated is it ? What say Delhi ?

Instead, wish the citizens were better behaved.
August 5 at 2:35pm

Ekta Rohra Jafri: Same here! Wish people were a little better behaved. Otherwise this city has it all!
August 5 at 2:53pm

Malvika Nanda: oops! Hun kithe si
August 5 at 3:00pm

Amitabh Mukherjee: The same poeple when they visit/live in different countries behave so well ... I wonder why.....
August 6 at 3:04am

Neha Chopra: Not to forget that the only time they roll down the windows of their swanky cars is when they have to throwthe empty bisleri bottles, empty chips packets, empty sachets of Rajnigandha etc. on the road.
August 6 at 9:09am

Deepali Vaswani: and the tormented, anguished Delhi speaks RIGHT HERE !!!
August 6 at 4:41pm

Nidhi Madan Verma: so true....we live in a lovely city...wish people were a little better behaved!
August 7 at 11:05am

Here's a clip featuring Bernardino and Lisa Pavone, Julian's parents, introducing their boisterous young rhythm king not long before he appeared before a television audience of millions on "Oprah."

No terminator I am but still, back, after a two-month hiatus.

Interesting phase this was where in my computer caught fire and the cell phone died. I chose to delay replacing both and was able to treat myself to an 'unplugged' life for a change. And in the process I realised that the totally wired life that we live today is so much self-imposed that we never really get round to seeing beyond it.

To begin, I was forced to pick up the phone and talk to friends, instead of sending an SMS. More, I was actually able to meet some of them to remember what they really looked like.

I didnt have to worry about my phone's battery dying every other day, which to me till now had really been the proverbial Roti, Kapra, Makaan and the Charger.

I actually found time to go through my bookshelf and settle down in my beanbag for a much deserved reading of Freakonomics.

And frankly, there aren't any flowers around my place or else I would have stopped to smell them too.

But more importantly, I learnt that:

1) Computer Hard Disks can overheat and conk off totally at their own sweet will.

2) Seagate hard disks are trash, at least the ones they sell in India. They overheat (meaning touch temperatures of 50 degrees or above) at the slightest, continuous use for data transfer.

3) Western Digital is the best HDD in the market currently, way above Seagate, Samsung & Hitachi. I'll spare you the technical details but take my word for this. I know enough about IT hardware to comment on this.

4) The rather innocuous looking SMPS (power supply) that converts 230V down to usable voltages (3.3V, 5V & 12V) inside the computer and was supplied with your desktop when you got it assembled, is probably of very low quality (since it costs between Rs. 250 - 450) and can start a fire any moment. The ones to buy are actually worth Rs. 3,500 or more. But your friendly neighbourhood computerwala isnt going to tell you that basically because he doesnt know jack**** about the importance of having a good quality SMPS in a PC.

5) You never remember to backup your data.

So I lost about 450 GB data within 10 seconds. But somehow the fire couldnt do much damage so all of it was recovered within a week.

That also explains why I wasnt blogging. But now that I am back, bombs away...

(Might come back with a post on best methods for maintaining a backup)
